Hello,
this request has already been postet 5 years ago, but neither been understand nor answered in a satisfying faction at this time:
So let me again try to clarify the request of bdlon, as it does not appaer to me, that you have looked into that request and all the clarifications of other users there after you have “answered” it.
Kahoot does reward some sort of combination of right answer and answer speed (formula?). This is often times problematic. In complex questions we expect students to think first and then answer.
Let´s say we have a very complex question, so we gave it a huge time limit of 3min. In the current state we are having the following situation:
Student A: She is very smart, she reads the question fast, analyses correctly and gives the correct answer in less then 1min.
Student B: She ist also smart, but takes a little more time to read and answer the question, so she needs around 2:40min to answer.
Student C: She is not motivated, maybe she thinks she will not answer correctly anyway so she just guesses as fast as possible since that might still get her a lot of points and take her on that sweet upper ranks. Guessing took her 3 seconds. And hey, she guessed correctly, awesome, right?
NO, this is absolutly not awesome! This is making me use Kahoot a lot less then I potentially would.
Since Student C knows there is a bonus for answering fast, she did not even try to think about the problem. She would probably behave in a totaly different way if there was no Bonus.
Students A and B on the other hand might get lured by the “speed-bonus” into not thinking about the problem as thouroughly as they could (and in my wishfull world should) since more thinking results in loosing points.
In the End everyone lost to the system. C got more points on that question then A and B even though they didn´t even try to think, so now A and B question their approach. C didn´t learn anything valuable herself.
Most of the time the guessing students will, over the course of many questions, get the short end of the stick, but not always. “Screaming anything fast is sometimes a working strategie" is nothing I wand to teach my students. Even in between rounds it´s anoying when C gets more points then B without having deserved it. This sets bad examples.
So, to conclude: Please include an option with which we can remove the time-bonus from our kahoots.
This is NOT solved by setting Questions/Answers to “No points awarded”. We DO want to award points, we just DON´t want to award points for answering speed.
You can keep this very simple, just award 100 points for every correct answer (we already have the option to weigh questions). If you want to give us even more flexible, let us set the awarded points for each answer indiviually.
Greetings
Jörg Gardill
PS: Student A will not mind if Student B gets the same score by answering slower, trust me (also in sum A will still make more points than B).
PPS: I´m pretty puzzled this option isn´t implemented since years and if you do not want to implement it I would be curious for the explanation.

Hi Lord_Riggajel!
Thank you again for your suggestion to remove points awarded based on answer speed. We’re excited to announce that this feature is now live as Accuracy game mode!
Accuracy Mode is a new Kahoot! game mode where correct answers matter more than speed. Unlike Classic Mode, this version rewards players only for accuracy, not how fast they respond. It’s designed to create a more relaxed, inclusive, and learning-focused experience.
For more detailed instructions, please visit How to host kahoots in Accuracy game mode.
Hi there!
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback regarding the scoring system on Kahoot!. We have forwarded your request to our product development team for their review and consideration.
In the meantime, we recommend trying different game modes as a workaround. Additionally, you may want to use assignments for a more learner-paced experience. With assignments, participants go through questions at their own pace, allowing them to think through each question thoroughly without being rushed.
Thank you for helping us improve Kahoot!. If you need further assistance or have more suggestions, please let us know.
