Thank you for sharing your feedback and ideas regarding student avatar customization and profile pictures.
We understand the desire for greater personalization, especially for older students who want more ways to express themselves. However, student accounts intentionally have strict restrictions on uploading custom photos and integrating external personal images.
As an educational platform used by millions of young learners worldwide, Kahoot! must adhere to strict global child privacy and safety regulations (such as COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR). Permitting personal photo uploads or unvetted external image syncing introduces significant privacy, security, and moderation risks - such as the exposure of personally identifiable information (PII) or unvetted visual content. Even with approval systems, maintaining a consistently secure, compliant, and COPPA/FERPA-aligned environment requires keeping student profiles strictly within controlled, pre-vetted visual boundaries.
That being said, our Product and Design teams are actively exploring ways to expand personalization safely within those parameters - such as adding a wider variety of default avatars, characters, accessories, and colors across all platforms.
While feature requests cannot be prioritized on an emergency basis, all feedback directly informs our roadmap as we work to balance creative expression with student safety! Thank you.
