I think it'd be fun if there was a Tetris clone style of gameplay where students drop blocks, similar to the Tallest Tower, except they're basically playing Tetris.
I understand there can be issues if players are simultaneously dropping blocks, but as long as they reach the bottom at different times it should be ok.
I would allow the players to rotate them and then drop them quickly like the tallest tower blocks drop. No rotating them after released. Also, the game would need to put the blocks dropping in order of inputs, and can animate them falling in order of inputs, but players would immediately go back to answering questions after releasing their block.
It might be cool if players could choose a block from three potential blocks when they first answer enough questions, and then get to drop the next block in the queue when it is time for them to drop the blocks. This could allow teams to use more advanced strategies if they choose to, or it basically be random if they don't choose to.
Example:
I answer enough questions and can choose between an L shaped block a Cube block and a + block. I choose the L block, and it gets put into the queue and I go back to answering questions. Other players are also choosing blocks and placing them into the queue. When I answer enough questions, I get to "drop a block" and I get whatever the next block in the queue is, which might be a + or Cube or Line, whatever is next in queue. I don't get the block I choose (unless the I'm lucky on the timing, or my team is doing so poorly no one else has picked a block yet).
If I was on my team alone, I'd get to choose my block and then the next time drop that block. But in a team, the blocks are queued up and you get whatever block is next in queue when your turn to "drop a block" comes up.
Optional Modes:
Teams get points when they clear rows, and it could have two modes... endless, so that they never reach a top point (in the time allotted) or a maximum height, and it could act like the monster attack when they reach the top. And then maybe clear all the blocks away having them start back at the bottom.
