As a teacher, I use Kahoot assignments not only for initial learning but also for spaced review and long-term retention.
Currently, if I want pupils to revisit a topic several weeks later, I have two options:
- Reassign the exact same Kahoot, which can become predictable because pupils remember the questions and answer order.
- Create a completely new assignment, which requires additional preparation time and duplicates content.
I would like to suggest a feature that would make Kahoot much more effective for revision and repeated practice.
Proposed Feature
Allow teachers to create a larger question bank within a Kahoot and specify how many questions should be selected randomly for each assignment attempt.
Example
A Kahoot contains:
30 questions
When creating an assignment, the teacher selects:
Questions per attempt: 15
Each time a pupil starts or repeats the assignment:
- 15 questions are selected randomly from the pool of 30;
- question order is randomised;
- answer order remains randomised as usual.
This means that no two attempts are exactly the same.
Benefits
Better Long-Term Learning
Pupils can repeat an assignment multiple times over several weeks or months without simply memorising the sequence of questions.
Reduces Teacher Workload
Teachers no longer need to create multiple versions of the same Kahoot simply to provide variation.
More Meaningful Progress Tracking
Because pupils encounter different subsets of questions, improvements in scores are more likely to reflect actual learning rather than memorisation.
Encourages Repetition
Pupils are more willing to replay assignments when they know they will encounter a different set of questions each time.
This feature would make Kahoot significantly more effective as a long-term learning platform, rather than solely as a one-time quiz or assignment tool.
