How many participants can play a kahoot?

The maximum number of participants in a Kahoot depends on your account type / plan (e.g. Basic, Kahoot!+, EDU, Business). Different user categories (Personal, Teachers, Students, Business) have different “participant limits” both for Live sessions and Assignments. To find yours, check Profile → Account details.

💡 There's no limit to how many times you can host or assign a kahoot. During every session that you start, you can host as many players as your participants limit allows.

FAQ: Kahoot! participant limits

  1. Is there a limit on how many kahoots I can host?
    No. You can host unlimited sessions. Limits apply only to the number of participants per game.
  2. Do live (Present) and assignment (Assign) modes have the same limits?
    Usually yes, though some EDU/Pro tiers allow higher assignment limits.
  3. What are young student restrictions?
    Age-based: U.S. under 13, elsewhere under 16, Korea under 14. These accounts have stricter limits.
  4. Can I host large games on a free/basic account?
    No. Free accounts have low participant limits (10–40). To host larger groups, you’ll need to upgrade.

  • I am an Administrator not a manager at my corporation. I was told KAHOOTS! Offered both free and paid games. I did a google search just to make sure, and indeed, they did offer a free service. I could ignore the flashing fees prompting me to pay $26 to $104 for a subscription. This was only for people who wanted the extra special features, which I could not afford. Looking back I should have checked what those specific features were. I created an account to create a free trivia game for a fun thing to do for a small group to play remotely at my office holiday lunch. It took me a lot of time and effort creating twenty five of my own trivia questions and personalizing each q&a with its own GIF and theme. Despite waking up early everyday for a week to get as much done before starting my busy day, I had fun watching my little creation progress. However, by the third day when I was almost finished my project, the website suddenly changed it's prompts indìcating i could only have 10 players with the free version. By the last day, when i finally finished, the free version dropped to only 3 players and now i was unable to send the link via email for my boss to review, nor could i email it to myself! The game ended up being washed and we all played human bingo instead. It was a success and had a great time, but what a waste.  Very disappointed. Had i seen this 10 or 3 player limit at the beginning, i would have used another team building app with no hidden agenda.

The free version allows for basic game creation and hosting, but it does have restrictions on the number of players that can join a game. As you noted, the free business users are on the test drive plan that has a player limit of 3 for the games created by them. However, the games created by the profile Kahoot! at Work allows free business users to host games for up to 50 players, giving you a perfect chance to try our platform out.

    The paid plans offer additional features such as higher player limits, advanced game creation tools, and more customization options. These plans are designed to cater to different needs, from small teams to large organizations.
