If you're a new user trying to sign up with Kahoot! and your email belongs to a domain that has been verified by an organization, don’t worry - you still have options.
Here’s what to do:
- Start the sign-up process by entering your email and clicking Continue.
- You’ll receive a verification email - follow the instructions to verify your email address.
- Once your email is verified, a pop-up will inform you that your email is connected to the organization. At this point, you have two choices:
- Request to join the organization. Submit a request to become a member. This request is valid for 7 days. If approved, you'll get an email confirmation with a prompt to log in and complete your profile.
- Sign up with a different email. If you don’t want to be part of the organization or if your request is denied, you’ll need to sign up using a personal (non-work) email address.
I have an account, but my email comes from a claimed domain
Already have a Kahoot! account, and just found out your email is part of a verified domain? Here’s how to proceed without losing access or data:
- Log in with your usual credentials.
- If your email is from a verified domain, you’ll see a pop-up offering two access options:

Request to join the organization. You can send a membership request that will remain valid for 7 days. Once approved, you’ll be prompted to complete your profile.

Change to a personal email. If your request is denied or you prefer not to join the organization, simply switch your account email to a personal one.

If you join the organization, all previously created content will automatically be moved to your personal folder within the organization's Library.

However, if you are already part of an organization that enables members access to their private workspaces or you are joining an organization that enables members access to their private workspaces, your existing content will remain in your personal workspace and will not be moved to the organization's shared space.

1. What does it mean if my email belongs to a verified domain?
It means your organization has verified ownership of your email domain to control access. If your email matches that domain, you'll need to either request access to join the organization or use a different email address.
2. Can I still sign up if my email is from a verified domain?
Yes. You can request to join the organization during sign-up. If approved, you’ll gain access. If denied, you’ll need to sign up with a personal email.
3. What happens to my account while waiting for approval to join the organization?
- New users - your account is not created until the admin accepts your membership request.
- Existing users - must wait until the admin reviews your request.
You can cancel a membership request or change your email address anytime during the approval process.
4. What happens to my content if I join the organization (existing account)?
Only content in the your private workspace (kahoots) might be affected. Two situations can happen:
- Content stays in your private workspace.
- Content is moved into the organization’s shared workspace.
Before you join, you are notified what will happen to your content.
If you are a member of another organization, your content there remains unchanged.
5. What happens to my account and content if I leave the organization?
Content stored in the organization’s workspace remains there after you leave the organization. Content in the your private workspace remains private. There are no special additional rules.
6. How long does the access request stay valid?
Access requests expire 7 days after being sent. If no action is taken, you’ll need to send a new request.
7. Can I cancel my request to join the organization?
Yes, you can cancel your request if it hasn’t been submitted yet.
8. Will I lose access to my Kahoot! account if I don’t join the organization?
No, but you’ll need to change your email to a personal one to keep using the account outside of the organization.
9. What should I do if I think I was added to the wrong organization?
Contact support or your organization’s owner to resolve access issues and verify correct domain membership.
