How to integrate Blackboard LMS with Kahoot! LTI

Step 1: Start LTI configuration from the Organisation space

1. Go to your team workspace via the left-side panel on our platform.
2. Click the avatar icon in the top right corner of the screen, select the LTI integration option from the list.

3. Click Create LTI configuration button.
   

4. Click Create manual.
   

5. Fill title and Continue.
   

6. Leave this open for later.
   

Step 2: Create an Application in Anthology portal

1. Go to the Anthopology API Services and Log in.

2. Under My Applications (this should be the default after login redirect), click the + button.
   

3. Choose Manual registration.
   

4. Choose the Application name, description

   • Fill the domains for LTI.

   • Toggle My integration Supports LTI 1.3 (extended form will show)

   • Go back to Kahoot! account and copy the fields above from the configuration we started above.

   • Click Register Application → This will generate the Application ID
     

5. Click Done and check if the new Application Configuration record has been created.
   
   

Step 3: Create a Tool

1. Go to Blackboard and Log in.

2. Follow the path in the video.

3. Copy the Application ID from https://developer.blackboard.com/portal/applications and fill it here as Client ID and click Submit. The image below should be the result.

4. Check that Tool Status is in Approved and click Submit.
   
   

5. Check that the item was created 👇
   
   Check that new tool was added (if you don't see it, try to go to the bottom of the table and click Show all).

Step 4: Finish the LTI configuration

1. Go back to Kahoot! account and fill in Client ID and Deployment ID and choose Dashboard present from the select. The rest will be prefilled automatically. Click Create.
   

2. The created configuration should be visible in an Active state.
   

Step 5: Create a deep link

1. Go to https://developer.blackboard.com/portal/applications
   - Click the action menu on the previously created application
   - Choose Manage Placements
   

2. Click Register
   

3. Fill in the Placement Name and Target link URI, choose the right type and click Create placement
   

4. Check that the placement was created
   

5. Go to Admin tools Blackboard and find our configuration. Click on dropdown arrow and choose Manage placements.
   

6. Initially, this will be empty, but the deep link we just created should appear after clicking the Synchronize Placements button.
   

Step 6: The final test

1. Go back to Blackboard and choose courses, select the course shown above
   

2. Click Add icon on the course and choose the Content Market option. Find the deep link we just created.
   

3. Log in as a member of the organisation you set up the LTI for.
   

4. You will be able to see the organisation’s content and create and assignment be selecting the kahoot/course.
   
   

FAQ: Blackboard LMS & LTI

1. Which Kahoot! plans support Blackboard integration?
   Only EDU Team plans with 25+ licenses. Contact us to learn more about a campus-wide solution or explore our plans for teams and departments.

2. Can I set up more than one LMS configuration?
   Yes. If your current plan includes the LTI integration feature, you can create as many LMS connections as you need.

3. Do I need admin rights in Blackboard?
   Yes, only admins can add and configure external LTI tools.

4. Can students use Kahoot! directly inside Blackboard?
   Yes, once set up, students can join and play kahoots inside their Canvas courses.

5. Do I get setup help?
   Yes - orgs with multiple licenses are assigned a Customer Success Manager to assist (including LTI). 

6. Does this work with all Blackboard versions?
   It requires Canvas instances that support LTI 1.3.
