Confidence exprerience: Gameplay overview
Confidence experience enhances the standard scoring system by asking participants to assess how certain they feel about their selected answer.
After choosing an answer, each participant must select one of two options:
Boost answer (strategic, higher-risk choice)
A strategic, higher-risk choice.
- Correct answer: the participant receives extra bonus points in addition to standard scoring.
- Incorrect answer: the participant loses points.
☝️ If a participant boosts their answer and gets it incorrect, their confidence streak always resets to Level 1, regardless of the previous level.
Play it safe (a no-risk option)
- Scoring follows Classic experience rules only.
Throughout the game, the host screen displays a confidence ratio, showing the percentage of participants who chose to boost.
After each question, the scoreboard updates with rankings and shows which confidence choice each player made.
Joining the game as a participant
💡 Players join the game exactly as they would in Classic experience.
💡 Once the game starts, each round follows a consistent flow:
- Players select their answer and decide whether to Boost answer (risk/reward) or Play it safe (standard scoring).
- When results are revealed:
• A boosted correct answer awards bonus points.
• A boosted incorrect answer results in a point reduction and automatic reset of the confidence streak to Level 1.
• A safe play uses classic scoring with no risk involved.
Confidence streaks (🔥)
Every time a participant selects Boost answer and answers correctly, they grow their confidence streak, represented by flame icons:
| Streak Level | Icon | Correct Answer | Incorrect Answer |
| Level 1 | 🔥 | +50 bonus points | -50 bonus points |
| Level 2 | 🔥🔥 | +75 bonus points | -75 bonus points |
| Level 3 | 🔥🔥🔥 | +100 bonus points | -100 bonus points |
A confident mistake resets the streak back to Level 1 (🔥).
Reports for confidence experiences games
When you host a live game with confidence experience, Kahoot! generates a standard quiz report once the game ends, just like for Classic experience live games. You can access it from the Reports section of your account, and the session will be labeled with the Confidence experience game type.
Confidence experience reports include everything you’re used to (Summary, Participants, Questions) plus dedicated confidence insights:
Summary tab
Includes a confidence highlight card for both host and participant views that surfaces key stats about confidently answered questions across the session.
Participants tab
The leaderboard table includes additional information about confidently answered questions per participant, making it easier to see who tends to answer confidently and how often they use that option. Just click on participant to see detailed overview
Questions tab
A Confident answer column shows data coming from confidence experience – whether participants chose to answer confidently for each scoring question.
☝️ For questions that gather opinions or feedback (e.g., polls) and questions where points are disabled, the report explains that confident answers don’t apply (for example, via tooltips such as “No confident answer as this question gathers opinions” or “No confident answers as this question doesn’t reward points.”).
These additions help you spot where participants are confidently correct or confidently wrong, so you can quickly identify misconceptions and follow up in your next session.
FAQ
-
Is boosting mandatory?
No. Participants choose independently for each question whether to take the risk or play safely.
-
Do speed points still apply?
Yes. Speed applies to standard scoring and to the safe-play option.
-
Can players change their confidence choice after selecting it?
No. Once a participant confirms “Boost answer” or “Play it safe,” the decision is locked for that question.
-
Can the experience be changed during the session?
No. The selected experience remains active for the entire game.
-
What happens after 1000 bonus points?
Confidence bonus points increase with streak level up to a maximum of 100 points. Once participants reach this maximum, each correct boosted answer continues to award 100 bonus points (no higher).
-
Does every question in the kahoot support confidence experience?
Confidence experience applies only to questions that award points. For any question where points are disabled, the game automatically follows Classic experience scoring (no boost or risk option for that question).
-
Will the reports show which students were confident?
This feature is not available at the moment, but it’s something we are actively exploring. Stay tuned for future updates!
