How to host and play the Marble Race experience

Welcome to the Kahoot! Marble Race experience, an exciting and interactive way to boost student engagement! In this fun, luck-based competition, answering quiz questions correctly earns you marbles for a thrilling final race. Every participant starts with a free marble, and each correct answer adds another. The more marbles you collect, the more chances you have to win the race to the finish line. How to host a Marble Race

  1. Go to your Library or Discover page and find the kahoot you want to host.
  2. Click Host live to launch the live game options.
  3. Select Marble Race from the experiences selection screen.
  4. Choose your preferred settings and click Start to launch the game to generate your game PIN
    • Unlimited time is available, so participants can take as long as they need on each question.
    • Characters is always on. Each marble shows the participant's character.
    • Themes and Autoplay aren't available.
  5. Share the game PIN with your participants so they can join your session.
  6. When everyone has joined, click Start. A short tutorial explains the rules (you can skip it).
  7. A Free marbles! screen appears: every participant gets one free marble, so everyone has a chance to win. Participants who join after the game has started get one too. Click Next to start the first question.
  8. After each question, newly earned marbles drop into the pile on the big screen ("New marbles!", or "Tough luck!" if nobody earned one).

Marble Race is for live games only. You can't assign it as a self-paced challenge.

Start with an easy question so that any participant will have at least one marble! How about a slider question where the answer margin is set to 'maximum'?

How to play as a participant

  1. Open your web browser and head to kahoot.it, or launch the Kahoot! mobile app and tap Join.
  2. Enter the Game PIN provided by the host.
  3. Answer questions correctly to earn marbles and watch them race to the finish line. You start with one free marble.
  4. Collect as many marbles as possible! More correct answers get you more marbles. Your device shows +1 after each correct answer and keeps a running count of your marbles.

How marbles are earned: 

  • Each correct answer earns exactly one marble. Speed doesn't matter, so take your time. Double points questions also earn one marble.
  • Only questions with a correct answer earn marbles: quiz, true or false, puzzle, type answer, pin answer, multi-select and slider. Polls, word clouds, brainstorms, slides and questions set to No points don't earn marbles.
  • On multi-select questions, you earn a marble as long as every answer you pick is correct, even if you don't pick all of the correct answers. Picking any wrong answer earns no marble.

The final race

When the questions end, the real fun begins!

  • The marbles drop onto the track. Each marble shows the character of the participant who earned it.
  • Watch as the marbles navigate the obstacles on the track. An arrow shows whose marble is in the lead. Participants' devices tell them to "Look up!" and show how many marbles they have.
  • When the race finishes, the top three marbles take the podium. The participant whose marble finishes first is announced as the Winner.
  • Afterwards, each participant sees where each of their marbles finished (1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on).

While collecting more marbles increases your chances of winning, the final race is partially luck-based, so anyone can win!
