I want to sign up, but my email comes from a verified domain
If you're a new user trying to sign up with Kahoot! and your email belongs to a domain that has been verified by an organization, don’t worry - you still have options. Here’s what to do:
- Start the sign-up process by entering your email and clicking Continue.
- You’ll receive a verification email - follow the instructions to verify your email address.
- Once your email is verified, a pop-up will inform you that your email is connected to the organization. You will have two choices:
Send request
- Submit a request to become a member. This request is valid for 7 days.
- If approved, you'll get an email confirmation with a prompt to log in and complete your profile.
- If your request is denied, you will receive an email notification. The system will then automatically prompt you to sign up using a different email address.
Sign up with different email
- If you don’t want to be part of the organization, or if your request is denied, you can sign up again using a personal (non-work) email address.
💡Social sign-up methods
If you try to sign up using a social method (like Google, Microsoft, Apple, or Clever) and your email belongs to a claimed domain, you will see a similar pop-up. If your request to join is approved, the social method you initially selected will be disconnected, and your account will be fully managed by the organization. If your request is denied or you choose not to join, you can simply click Sign up with different method.
I have an account, but my email comes from a claimed domain
Already have a Kahoot! account, and just found out your email is part of a verified domain? Here’s how to proceed without losing access or data:
- Log in with your usual credentials.
- If your email is from a verified domain, you’ll see a pop-up offering access options:
Send request
- You can send a membership request that will remain valid for 7 days.
- Once approved, you’ll be prompted to complete your profile.
Change email
- If your request is denied or you prefer not to join the organization, simply switch your account email to a personal one to continue using Kahoot! as a private user.
📌 What happens to your content
- If you join the organization, all previously created content will automatically be moved to your personal folder within the organization's Library. Learn more about how Folders work to manage your content efficiently.
- However, if you are already part of an organization that enables members access to their private workspaces or you are joining an organization that enables members access to their private workspaces, your existing content will remain in your personal workspace and will not be moved to the organization's shared space.
Not sure which scenario applies to you? No worries! Just open the “What will happen to my content” window. It clearly shows what flow applies to your situation, so you always know what to expect.
💡 Social log in methods
If you usually log in using a social method (like Google, Microsoft, Apple, or Clever) and your email belongs to a claimed domain, the process is very similar. If your request to join is approved, the social log in method you used will be disconnected, and your account will be fully managed by the organization. If you decide to change your email to remain a private user, your social log in method will also be disconnected, but you can always reconnect it later in your account settings.
What if my organization uses SSO?
If your organization has enabled Single Sign-On (SSO), your joining experience will be faster, but you may see different options on your screen depending on whether you are creating a new account or logging into an existing one.
Sign up as a new user
-
Log in with SSO to create account: You can bypass the manual approval process. Clicking this button redirects you to your company's Identity Provider (like Okta or Microsoft Entra). If your IT admin has granted you access to Kahoot! in your company system, your account will be created immediately.
-
Send request: If your SSO login fails, this usually means your IT department hasn't assigned you access to the Kahoot! app yet. Return to the Kahoot! screen and click Send request.
In an SSO setup, this button does not create a standard membership request in Kahoot!. Instead, it sends an email notification (an alert) to your organization owner letting them know you need access assigned in your company's Identity Provider.
-
Sign up with different email: If you prefer to skip the organization entirely or need an account right away, you can use a personal (non-work) email.
Log in as an existing user
-
Log in with SSO to join organization: You can bypass manual approval. Authenticate via your company's Identity Provider to immediately link your existing account to the organization.
-
Send request: If your SSO login fails, click Send request to notify your admin that you need access assigned in the company system.
-
Change email: Switch your account email to a personal one to continue using Kahoot! independently of the organization.
💡What does the organization owner see? When you click Send request in an SSO-enabled organization, your administrator receives an automated email. It instructs them to add you to the company's Identity Provider so you can log in.
(Note: This view is for administrative purposes; the exact wording may vary slightly based on platform updates, but the requirement for IT to grant access remains the same).
What if my organization uses SSO and SCIM?
If your organization uses Automated Provisioning (SCIM) alongside SSO, user management is handled entirely in the background by your IT department.
Sign up as a new user
-
Send request: You will be prompted that your account hasn't been created yet. Because SCIM is enabled, the admin cannot manually approve you within Kahoot!. Clicking Send request acts as an alert to your admin to add you via the company's internal Identity Provider. You can also try to contact your IT department directly. Once they assign you access, SCIM will automatically create your account.
-
Sign up with different email: You can sign up using a personal email if you want to use Kahoot! immediately while waiting for IT to provision your work account.
Log in as an existing user
-
Send request: Similar to new users, click this button to send an alert to your IT department to grant you access. Once provisioned, you will be able to join the organization.
-
Change email: If you do not want to wait or prefer to separate your account, change your email to a personal address to retain access to your private content.
💡 What does the organization owner see? For organizations using both SSO and SCIM, the automated email sent to the administrator (shown below) specifies that your account must be provisioned via SCIM before you can log in.
(Note: This view is for administrative purposes; the exact wording may vary slightly based on platform updates, but the requirement for IT to grant access remains the same).
FAQ
-
What does it mean if my email belongs to a verified domain? It means your organization has verified ownership of your email domain to control access. If your email matches that domain, you'll need to either request access to join the organization, log in via SSO, or use a different email address.
-
Can I still sign up if my email is from a verified domain? Yes. You can click Send request to ask for membership. If your organization uses SSO, you can click Log in with SSO to bypass manual approval. Alternatively, you can sign up with a personal email.
-
What happens if I try to log in via SSO but receive an error? Errors during SSO login usually mean your IT department hasn't assigned the Kahoot! application to your user profile in their system. Return to the Kahoot! login screen and click Send request to notify them that you need access.
-
What happens to my account while waiting for approval?
- New users: your account is not created until the admin accepts your request or grants you access.
-
Existing users: you must wait until the admin reviews your request and provisions your account. You can cancel your request or change your email address at any time during the approval process.
-
What happens to my content if I join the organization (existing account)? Only content in your private workspace (kahoots) might be affected. Two situations can happen:
- Content stays in your private workspace.

-
How long does the access request stay valid? Standard access requests expire 7 days after being sent. (Note: If your organization uses SSO/SCIM, the notification sent to your admin does not expire, but you will need to wait for them to assign you access in the company system).

-
What should I do if I think I was added to the wrong organization? Contact support or your organization’s owner to resolve access issues and verify correct domain membership.
- Is it safe to join an organization through a verified domain? Yes, it enhances security and ensures only authorized users access your organization’s workspace and tools.
