You can get started at kahoot.com by clicking “Sign up” in the top-right of the screen.
When creating an account, there are five stages you’ll be guided through:
- Choose your account type
- Provide more context to your Kahoot! usage
- Provide your log-in credentials
- Select the plan
- Optional: add more information about your account
1. Choose your account type
- TEACHER - for teachers and professors at public K-12 schools, colleges, or universities.
- STUDENT - for students at K-12 schools, colleges, or universities.
- PERSONAL - for those who intend to use Kahoot! for personal/social use.
- PROFESSIONAL - for users affiliated with for-profit or non-profit organizations.
2. Provide more context to your Kahoot! usage
TEACHER
- School: Select this option if you are working as a teacher in a public K-12 school or educational institution.
- Higher education: Select this option if you are working as a teacher in a higher education institution.
- School administration: Select this option if you are working in a public school administration.
- Business: Select this option if you are working in a for-profit institution as a teacher.
STUDENT
If you selected the "Student" account you need to provide your date of birth.
U.S. students under 13 and non-U.S. students under 16 will have restrictions applied based on our Children Privacy Policy. You can read more about it here.
Afterward, you need to provide a username. You can click on the magic wand icon to automatically generate one. Your username must be 20 characters max, with no spaces or special characters (except for underscores and periods).
Young Student accounts (U.S. students under 13 and non-U.S. students under 16) have to log in using their usernames, not emails. The only exception is when they log in via SSO providers (Google/Microsoft/Apple/Clever).
PERSONAL
- Friend and family: Select this option if you will use your account for fun with your friends and family.
- Colleagues or clients: Select this option if you will be using your account in professional settings.
- Students: Select this option if you will be using this account as a teacher.
- Other: Select this option if none of the previous options described the context in which you want to use your account.

3. Provide your log-in credentials
To create an account for you we need you to provide:
- Email - Please make sure you have access to the email you are providing for the account and that you can receive messages from external domains. In case of forgetting the password receiving a message to this email will be the only way of retrieving access to your account. You may also receive marketing and service notifications based on your account settings.
- Password - Your password must be between 6 to 20 characters long.
Wanna skip this step? Log in using one of the SSO providers we support - Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Clever. Once you click "Continue with Google/Microsoft/Apple/Clever" you will be taken to a page where you can log in to the account you have with the specific provider.
At this step, you can also opt-in or opt-out of receiving information, offers, updates, and recommendations from Kahoot! to your email address. This can be later altered in the settings of your account.
4. Select the plan.
After clicking "Sign up" you will be taken to a pricing page where you can select the subscription plan. If you do not wish to purchase a plan at this moment you can click "Continue for free".
PROFESSIONAL
If you want to continue for free, you need to scroll down and click "Sign up for free - no credit card required".
5. Optional: add more information about your account
As a teacher or professional user, you will be asked to provide more information. This step is optional and does not influence the functionality of your account. You can skip it by clicking "Maybe later". Afterward, you can complete those details in the settings of the account.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Is Kahoot! free? Why do I have to select a subscription?
There's a free version of Kahoot! platform and app for everyone to enjoy free of charge. Nevertheless, if you need more functionalities and access to the advanced features you can subscribe to one of our paid plans. You can read more about it here.
A: Your type of user fully depends on your primary activity with Kahoot! and association with other organizations. Please see the usage cases and the corresponding account type:
- If you are a teacher or professor at a K-12 school, college, or university you can sign up as a teacher.
- If you are a student at a K-12 school, college, or university you can sign up as a student.
- If you are not affiliated with any organization or intend to use Kahoot! for personal use then sign up for a social account.
- If you’re affiliated with a for-profit or non-profit organization and wish to use Kahoot! to make events and training, then sign up for a professional account.
A: As per our Terms and Conditions, one account can be used by only one person. When setting up a subscription you can select how many licenses you want to purchase, you should select as many licenses as there are people that will need access to the subscription. Every license is paid additionally, the price displayed on our pricing page is per 1 license.
Q: Do you have accounts for nonprofit organizations?
A: Nonprofits should use the "Professional" account type. When creating an account you need to select the "Professional" option, then you can go to this pricing page to be able to view and purchase discounted plans for nonprofits.
