How to integrate Canvas LMS with Kahoot! LTI

Step 1: Start LTI configuration from the Organization space

1. Go to your workspace via the left-side panel on our platform.

2. Click the avatar icon in the top right corner of the screen, select the LTI integration option from the list.

3. Click Create LTI configuration button.
   

4. Click Create manual.
   

5. Fill title and Continue.
   

6. Leave this open for later.
   

Step 2: Create a Developer key

1. Go to Admin → Kahoot! partner -> Developers keys → New developer key → LTI Registration
   

2. Fill https://lti.kahoot.com/registration/vendor and click Continue
   

3. Log in to the account for which you are setting up the Canvas LTI.
   

4. Choose the right organisation and click Add.
   

5. Check the following and click Enable & Close. The placements should be done automatically; You don’t need to fill anything.
   

6. This is your Client ID, which you will need in the next step.
   

Step 3: Create an App

1. Go to Admin → Kahoot! partner -> Settings → Apps → View App Configurations.
   
2. Click + Add.
   
3. Choose By Client ID. Fill previously generated Client ID (You will need this in next steps).
   
   
4. This is your Deployment ID you need to copy.
   

Step 4: Create an App

1. Go back to kahoot and fill in Client ID and Deployment ID and choose Canvas present from the select. The rest will be prefilled automatically. Click Create.
   
2. The created configuration should be visible in an Active state.
   

 Step 5: The final test

1. Go to Canvas app and choose Courses. Create a course with a module and click +.
   
2. Choose External tool. From the options available, select Kahoot!
   
3. Add content from the organization space.

1. Which Kahoot! plans support Canvas integration?
   Only EDU Team plans with 25+ licenses. Contact us to learn more about a campus-wide solution or explore our plans for teams and departments.

2. Can I set up more than one LMS integration?
   Yes. If your current plan includes the LTI integration feature, you can create as many LMS connections as you need. We do not impose a limit on the number of integrations.

3. Do I need admin rights in Canvas?
   Yes, only admins can add and configure external LTI tools.

4. Can students use Kahoot! directly inside Canvas?
   Yes, once set up, students can join and play kahoots inside their Canvas courses.

5. Do I get setup help?
   Yes - orgs with multiple licenses are assigned a Customer Success Manager to assist (including LTI). 

6. Does this work with all Canvas versions?
   It requires Canvas instances that support LTI 1.3.
