Kahoot! EDU Quarterly Newsletter: Q3 2026
Upgraded host toolbar
Hosting just got a lot more streamlined. A single toolbar at the top of the screen now brings everything a host needs into one place:
- Toolbar has moved to the top of the screen for better visibility
- Join info front and center - your PIN and QR code, so participants can jump in fast
- A navigation button that always tells you what it'll do
And it's the same toolbar and navigation whether you're in Classic or Lecture experience, so switching between them now feels seamless.
Open-ended questions for students 16 and up
Brainstorm, Word Cloud, and Open-ended question types are now available for students aged 16 and over. To turn these on, you'll be asked to quickly confirm you teach students in that age group the next time you log in to host a kahoot. You can update this preference anytime under Profile settings > Privacy.
New names for familiar features
We've renamed a couple of in-platform features to make them easier to understand:
- AI Experiences is now AI formats
- Game modes is now Experiences
The features themselves haven't changed - just clearer names to match how you already talk about them.
A simpler flow for assigning courses
The course assignment flow - rebuilt a few months ago in our modern nano-format -just got an upgrade. It's now simpler, with advanced options tucked behind a single click; more consistent, with sharing options grouped into one panel.
A refreshed look for Kahoot! Course certificates
Course certificates now support full personalization. A centralized, high-quality certificate feels more rewarding for learners to receive and share as portable proof of their learning—while giving organizations a consistent, on-brand experience. Here's what's new:
- A modernized certificate design with a refreshed, professional, and fun visual style
- Organization-level customization, including custom images, logos, and brand colors
New episodes of the Kahoot! Podcast
Two new episodes are live. The first explores why artificial intelligence has moved beyond innovation projects and into senior leadership responsibility across trusts and schools.
The second looks at what real engagement actually looks like, why a noisier classroom might be a better one, and what it takes to let go of the classroom you were trained to want.
