How to import and sync slides from Canva

With Slide sync, you can bring your Canva presentations into a kahoot and add interactive questions between your slides. Once your presentation is synced, you can update your slides in kahoot whenever you make changes in Canva.

Before you start

• Use a Canva presentation. Only designs created as a Presentation in Canva appear when you choose a file. Other design types, such as documents or social posts, aren't listed.
• Remove or replace video, audio and GIFs. Each slide is imported as a static image. Videos, audio, GIFs, animations and transitions won't play in kahoot. Add media directly to a kahoot slide instead.
• Allow pop-ups for Kahoot!. You sign in to Canva in a pop-up window. If your browser blocks it, the import can't continue.

How to import slides from Canva

1. Open the Import slides panel. You can get there in two ways:
   
   • New kahoot: click Create, then choose Import slides.
   • Existing kahoot: in the kahoot creator, click Add in the left panel, then open the Import tab.
2. Click Sync with Canva.
   
3. Sign in to Canva in the pop-up window and allow Kahoot! to access your designs. If the account belongs to multiple Canva teams, choose the correct workspace from the "Select a team" dropdown before clicking Allow.
   
4. In the Select presentation window, find your presentation. You can search by title, filter by All, Your presentations or Shared with you, and sort by Last modified, Relevance, Title (A-Z), Title (Z-A) or Oldest.
5. Select the presentation and click Continue. Kahoot! imports all of its slides. This can take a few minutes, and you can keep editing your kahoot while you wait.
   
6. When the slides appear in the Import panel, click Add on each slide you want, or Add all to add the whole presentation.
   

The slides are added to your kahoot only when you click Add or Add all. Your presentation stays in the Import panel, so you can come back later and add more slides.

How to update your slides after editing in Canva

1. Select an imported Canva slide in your kahoot and click Edit in Canva. Your presentation opens in Canva in a new tab.
2. Make your changes in Canva.
3. Back in kahoot, click Update on the slide, then choose:
   • Update only this slide to refresh the slide you're on.
   • Update all slides to refresh every slide imported from that presentation.
     

You can also update everything from the Import panel: open the presentation's menu and choose Update all slides.

Limitations of the Canva integration

Canva slide sync works differently from Google Slides and OneDrive in three ways:

• Media isn't detected. Each Canva slide is brought into Kahoot! as a still image, so videos, audio and animated GIFs don't come with it. With Google Slides and PowerPoint, Kahoot! warns you when a slide contains media. With Canva, it can't detect media, so you won't see a warning.
• Slides are updated by position. Moving, adding or deleting slides in Canva changes which slide ends up where in your kahoot when you update. See How to update your slides after editing in Canva.
• Review changes isn't available. For Google Slides and PowerPoint, you can review what changed before updating. For Canva, Review changes is turned off, and the menu shows Review changes isn't supported for Canva.

FAQ

1. I imported my presentation, but the slides aren't in my kahoot. What happened? Importing brings the slides into the Import panel. Click Add on a slide, or Add all, to put them in your kahoot.
    
2. Why don't I see my Canva design in the list? 
   • Incorrect Canva team selected: Kahoot! only displays presentations from the specific Canva team or workspace selected during login. If the presentation is located in a different team account, disconnect Canva via the account menu in the Import panel, click Sync with Canva again, and select the appropriate team from the Select a team dropdown in the sign-in pop-up.
   • Non-presentation format: Only designs formatted as a Presentation in Canva are displayed. Other formats (documents, whiteboards, social posts) are not supported and will not appear in the picker.
   • Shared presentations: If the presentation was created by a collaborator, switch the filter from Your presentations to Shared with you. 
      
3. Will my videos, audio and GIFs play in kahoot? No. Each slide is imported as a static image, and Kahoot! can't tell you which Canva slides contain media. Add videos and audio directly to a Kahoot! slide instead.
    
4. Nothing happens when I click Sync with Canva, or I see "Slide import failed". Your browser may be blocking the Canva sign-in pop-up. Allow pop-ups for Kahoot! and try again.
    
5. I see "Unable to access Canva". Your Canva connection has expired. Click Sync with Canva and sign in again.
    
6. My slides are in the wrong order after updating. Updates follow each slide's position in the Canva presentation. If you moved, added or deleted slides in Canva, rearrange the slides in your kahoot, or move them back in Canva and update again.
    
7. Why can't I use Review changes with Canva? Canva doesn't give each slide its own identifier, so Kahoot! can't tell which slides changed. Review changes is available for Google Slides and PowerPoint only.
    
8. How do I disconnect my Canva account? Use the account menu in the Import panel or the account bar in the Select presentation window, and choose Log out from Canva.
