How do I change the language on the Kahoot! web platform?

The Kahoot! platform will automatically try to identify your device's preferred default language and switch to it if it is supported. If you need to override this:

For your personal account:

  1. Log in to your Kahoot! account.
  2. Navigate manually to your Settings.
  3. Select your preferred language from the dropdown menu.

While hosting a live game: If you are presenting to a group, you can easily switch the interface language on the fly by using the language selector located in the host settings panel.

☝️ When the host changes the language of the host interface, it does not affect the participants' interfaces. Every participant sees the platform interface in their own default or chosen language, which is determined by their device or browser's language settings.

How do I change the language in the Kahoot! mobile app?

If you already have a Kahoot! account and want to switch languages on a mobile device, follow these steps:

  1. Update to the latest app version on your iOS or Android device.
  2. The app will automatically detect your device language and switch to it.
  3. If you want to use a language different from your device's language, tap the profile icon within the app.
  4. Tap the gearwheel icon to open your settings.
  5. Select your desired language from the Language dropdown menu.

Yes! Kahoot! offers specific support for Right-to-Left (RTL) languages, particularly Arabic.

  • On the Web Platform: We offer an RTL language interface in Arabic for both participants' and hosts' screens. Note: It is currently not possible to change the interface of the kahoot creator to RTL on the web platform.
  • On the Mobile App: The RTL interface in Arabic is fully supported. This means you can create, host, and play games natively in RTL mode by changing your app language to Arabic.
☝️ The actual game content (your questions and answers) will always be displayed exactly as it was created (either LTR or RTL). Changing your app language only alters the interface menus, not the user-generated game content.

How to use Kahoot! with non-supported languages

Even if we do not officially support a specific language's interface, you can still easily write your questions and answers in almost any language!

💡 If you are typing in an unsupported RTL language on the web platform creator, here are the best workarounds to ensure your text formats correctly:

  • Type your punctuation marks (., !, ?) before you type your sentence.
  • If numerical or Latin symbols are in the middle of your sentence, consider rephrasing so they appear at the end instead.
  • Avoid using keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl + Shift) to change text direction, as this might cause HTML code to appear inside your questions.
  • As a foolproof alternative, consider creating an image containing your properly formatted text and uploading that image as the question media.

AI Creation, Translation, and Stories

  • Kahoot! AI creator: You can automatically generate Kahoot! games in over 50 languages using the Kahoot! creator. Certain premium plans also include a feature to instantly translate existing kahoots.

  • Thanks for this article. OK, I understand You cannot support each language, so KAHOOT in Czech language is just in my dreams. :-)

    But one thing could help a lot - editable boxes in TRUE/FALSE questions. If I could delete text "TRUE" or "FALSE" and replace them with my own text, it is some easy way to use this type of question in Czech or any other language. Sounds it possible??

    To use your own preferred text in a 2-answer question, you can use the "quiz" question type instead, as it allows for as few as 2 answer choices and lets you set the text for each.

  • It would be great if there was the ability to play the same Kahoot in multiple languages. We are doing an event with 1/2 the guests that speak Spanish & 1/2 English. Client would like us to have a version in each language to play at the same time.
