How do I change the language on the Kahoot! web platform?
The Kahoot! platform will automatically try to identify your device's preferred default language and switch to it if it is supported. If you need to override this:
For your personal account:
- Log in to your Kahoot! account.
- Navigate manually to your Settings.
- Select your preferred language from the dropdown menu.
While hosting a live game: If you are presenting to a group, you can easily switch the interface language on the fly by using the language selector located in the host settings panel.
How do I change the language in the Kahoot! mobile app?
If you already have a Kahoot! account and want to switch languages on a mobile device, follow these steps:
- Update to the latest app version on your iOS or Android device.
- The app will automatically detect your device language and switch to it.
- If you want to use a language different from your device's language, tap the profile icon within the app.
- Tap the gearwheel icon to open your settings.
- Select your desired language from the Language dropdown menu.
Troubleshooting: Why isn't my Kahoot! app language changing on my school device?
If you are using a school-managed device (such as an iPad or Chromebook), your IT administrator may restrict app updates and settings via Mobile Device Management (MDM). You will need to contact your IT admin to push the latest app version to your device.
Does Kahoot! support Right-to-Left (RTL) languages?
Yes! Kahoot! offers specific support for Right-to-Left (RTL) languages, particularly Arabic.
- On the Web Platform: We offer an RTL language interface in Arabic for both participants' and hosts' screens. Note: It is currently not possible to change the interface of the kahoot creator to RTL on the web platform.
- On the Mobile App: The RTL interface in Arabic is fully supported. This means you can create, host, and play games natively in RTL mode by changing your app language to Arabic.
How to use Kahoot! with non-supported languages
Even if we do not officially support a specific language's interface, you can still easily write your questions and answers in almost any language!
💡 If you are typing in an unsupported RTL language on the web platform creator, here are the best workarounds to ensure your text formats correctly:
- Type your punctuation marks (., !, ?) before you type your sentence.
- If numerical or Latin symbols are in the middle of your sentence, consider rephrasing so they appear at the end instead.
- Avoid using keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl + Shift) to change text direction, as this might cause HTML code to appear inside your questions.
- As a foolproof alternative, consider creating an image containing your properly formatted text and uploading that image as the question media.
AI Creation, Translation, and Stories
- Kahoot! AI creator: You can automatically generate Kahoot! games in over 50 languages using the Kahoot! creator. Certain premium plans also include a feature to instantly translate existing kahoots.
- Kahoot! Story: The Kahoot! AI story creator allows users to generate interactive stories and dynamically change the content language and tone of voice.
Accessibility and Read-Aloud Support
Kahoot! is committed to accessibility standards. Standard screen readers on host and player devices can read questions and matching answer numbers aloud.
Additionally, the Read-Aloud feature offers extensive auditory assistance:
- The Read-aloud app feature and the Read-aloud audio media (for premium plans) support up to 37 languages, including Arabic, Catalan, Hindi, Filipino, Japanese, and many more. This automated voice can read the questions and answers out loud in the selected language to help improve comprehension.
FAQ
-
Can I translate the True/False buttons into a non-supported language? No, the built-in True/False buttons cannot be manually edited. However, you can bypass this by using the standard quiz question type instead. Simply create a Quiz question, limit it to 2 answer choices, and manually type your custom translated words for True and False.
-
Can I host the same kahoot game in two different languages at the same time? No, the game content (questions and answers) will only display in the language it was typed in. While individual players can view the Kahoot! interface in their own native languages, the actual quiz questions cannot be automatically translated for different players in the same live game.
-
Will changing my host language change the language for my participants? No, when the host changes the language of the interface, it strictly affects only their own screen and does not alter the participants' interfaces.
-
How can I translate kahoot questions automatically? While changing your language settings only translates the platform's user interface, you can use the Kahoot! AI generator to create a kahoot in over 50 languages, or use premium features to translate existing kahoots.
-
What languages does the Read-Aloud feature support? The Read-Aloud feature supports 37 languages, allowing questions and answers to be vocalized automatically.
- Why isn't my Kahoot! app language changing on my school device? If you are using a school-managed device, your IT administrator may restrict app updates and settings via MDM. You will need to contact your IT admin to push the latest app version to your device.

Thanks for this article. OK, I understand You cannot support each language, so KAHOOT in Czech language is just in my dreams. :-)
But one thing could help a lot - editable boxes in TRUE/FALSE questions. If I could delete text "TRUE" or "FALSE" and replace them with my own text, it is some easy way to use this type of question in Czech or any other language. Sounds it possible??
Hi milospetras!
To use your own preferred text in a 2-answer question, you can use the "quiz" question type instead, as it allows for as few as 2 answer choices and lets you set the text for each.
It would be great if there was the ability to play the same Kahoot in multiple languages. We are doing an event with 1/2 the guests that speak Spanish & 1/2 English. Client would like us to have a version in each language to play at the same time.
