How to generate a kahoot with AI

Whether you want to turn a PDF, a webpage, synced slides, or a simple topic into a fully playable game, the AI kahoot generator streamlines the creation process. This guide will show you exactly how to use these tools to build your learning materials in seconds.

Start creating a kahoot with AI

Follow these steps to access Kahoot! Assistant:

  1. Log in to your Kahoot! account.
  2. Click Create → Kahoot and select Topic to kahoot.
  3. Choose how you want to get started:
    • Topic — start with an idea
    • PDF — use an existing document
    • URL — use content from a webpage
    • Wikipedia — use a Wikipedia article
    • Slides — use an existing presentation
    • DfE (GOV.UK) — use verified educational resources from the Department for Education
💡 You can also access the AI creator directly from within the kahoot creator. Just click Create in the left-side panel (where your slides are listed) while editing an existing kahoot to open the AI assistant.

Choose a source

Your source tells Kahoot! AI what your kahoot should be about.

Topic

Type in the topic of your kahoots and click Create to use AI-powered features. Keep it short and simple, for example, “Dog breeds” or “Space”.

💡 With Perplexity integration, Kahoot! can now generate content from real-time events. Just type a current topic (e.g., “latest NASA mission”) and let the AI instantly create accurate, up-to-date questions for your kahoot.

PDF

Use this when your learning material is already in a PDF file, such as lecture notes, slides, worksheets, textbook chapters.

Use PDF to kahoot for a faster way to generate a kahoot directly from an uploaded PDF file from the main creator menu.

Select the file from your device and upload it. The question generator will use the information included in the file to create questions and answers. Kahoot AI generator can process PDF files with around 154 pages.

💡 Already have questions in your PDF?
You can extract them instead of generating new ones. This option supports Quiz questions only.

To extract existing questions:

  1. Upload your PDF.
  2. Select the pages you want to use.
  3. Turn on Extract questions.
  4. Click Extract.

URL

Use this option when you want to turn an online article or webpage into a kahoot. Examples: blog posts, news articles, learning resources, documentation pages.

Paste the page URL, and the AI will analyze the content to generate questions.

☝️ Some webpages may not be available if their content can't be accessed or processed.

Wikipedia

You can generate a kahoot based on information from Wikipedia. Enter the topic of the article you want to use, for example: Photosynthesis, The French Revolution, The Solar System.

Slides

Use this option when you want to generate a kahoot from a presentation.

Import and sync your slides (for example from Google Slides or Microsoft Powerpoint), and the AI will analyze the content to create questions.

DfE (GOV.UK)

☝️ The feature is currently available to teachers in Great Britain.

Use this option to turn verified educational resources from the Department for Education into a kahoot. This is ideal for quickly creating quizzes aligned with curriculum standards, using high-quality lesson materials and worksheets.

Type a specific topic (e.g., "fractions") into the search bar. Select the most relevant resource from the list, which includes materials from partners like the Oak National Academy. The AI will analyze the selected document to generate tailored questions and answers.

💡 Use the available filters, such as Primary, to narrow down the search results and find the exact level of material needed.

Click Create and choose a format

Once your content is ready, click Create to create your kahoot.

Then choose the format that best fits your goal, for example:

  • Quiz – test knowledge
  • Workshop – run interactive sessions
  • Presentation – guide learners through content

☝️ Available formats may vary depending on your account type and subscription plan.

The AI analyzes your content and shows a list of suggested questions and answers. Next, adjust the output and add questions to your game.

Customize the AI-generation settings

Use the controls in the AI generator to fine-tune the questions:

  • You can create a kahoot in 70 different languages. For more detailed information about the   supported languages, you can check out the page What languages does Kahoot! support?
  • Skill level – choose how easy or challenging the questions should be (for example Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).
  • Kahoot length – select how many questions or slides should be generated.
💡 You can change the topic or settings and click Refresh to generate a new set of questions.

Review and add AI-generated questions

  1. Review all suggested questions and answers.
  2. By default, all generated questions are selected. Uncheck any questions you don't want to include.
  3. Click Add and close to insert the selected questions and return to the main Kahoot! creator.
  4. In the creator, you can continue to edit questions, add images or videos, change question types, and create additional questions manually.
  5. When you’re finished, save your kahoot.

AI Usage Specifications

☝️ If you're the owner of a shared workspace that includes access to AI, you can manage access to the AI features in the workspace's Team settings. Read more: AI access in Team settings.
☝️ It is also possible to manage AI features on an individual level. If automatic AI input is not desired, the AI tools can be disabled directly in the Profile settings.
