How to register Kahoot! LTI Provider (Moodle)
-
Log in to your Moodle account as an Administrator and navigate to the Site Administration menu.
- Under Site Administration, select Plugins, scroll down and select External Tool.
- Click on Manage Tools.
- To start the process, enter the relevant URL in the form and press the Add LTI Advantage button (you will get a registration URL from your Kahoot! contact).
☝️ Only Owner and Admin of the Kahoot! subscription can register the tool in LMS.
- Once the configuration has been exchanged between the two systems a confirmation message, as shown below, will be displayed. To proceed click the Return to LMS button.
☝️ After exchanging the configuration, it is not automatically activated in Moodle. Once you close the confirmation page, the new configuration will appear as pending, as shown below.
-
To enable the connection, press the Activate button.
☝️ While it is possible to edit the configuration options, it is generally not recommended as it may adversely affect the functionality of the integration. - Once the tool is activated, the configuration is complete and available for use in courses!
How to add Kahoot! content to a course (Moodle)
After enabling Kahoot! as an external tool in your LMS, it becomes available as an additional content type in your courses.
☝️ Important: In Moodle when you are making a new course, it may be necessary for the Kahoot LTI Client to be activated for that course. Here's how you can enable it:
- Choose the LTI External tools option from the More menu.
- You must then ensure that the Show in activity chooser option is enabled as below.
- Once the tool is visible within the activity chooser, press the Add an activity or resource button. This will open an activity chooser the contents of which will depend on your system configuration.
-
We recommend typing Kahoot into the search bar to make it easier to locate and select the Kahoot LTI client. You can add the tool to your favorites by clicking star icon in order to have quick access.
- Great! You have selected Kahoot! as a new activity, you will be presented with a screen that allows you to configure the activity. In order to insert content to your course, click Select Content button shown near the top of the following image.
☝️ If you are using the integration for the first time, you will be required to log on and authorize Moodle to link to your Kahoot! account. -
Once you have your account linked, you will be presented with a screen that allows you to select the kahoot you wish to add to a course.
☝️ Please remember that while the challenge is created at this stage, it only becomes visible in Moodle when you save the new activity.
Interacting with course content (Moodle)
Once the activity and course have been saved, students will be able to access the Kahoot! the same way as they access any other content.
When a student clicks on the activity, the Kahoot! will be opened, and the student can participate as normal.
Done! 🎉 Now, you know how to integrate your LMS with Kahoot! LTI 1.3 Advantage!
