How to change kahoot settings: Title
Once you learn how to change kahoot settings, come up with a meaningful title that accurately describes what your kahoot is about. It will help other users find it in search results and understand if it’s relevant.
☝️ You cannot save the game as a full version (it will save as a non-playable draft) without adding the title.
☝️ A title can be up to 95 characters
How to change kahoot settings: Description
It is easier for other users to find your kahoot on the Discover page by its description than by its questions. You can also add a # in front of words to highlight them as closely related to your kahoot (for example, “A #trivia quiz about #popular #music”).
☝️ Descriptions can be up to 500 characters.
How to change kahoot settings: Cover image
Adding a cover image is an excellent opportunity to give more context to your kahoot. Kahoots with cover images are also boosted slightly by our search algorithm, making them more likely to be found by others than kahoots without a cover image.
☝️ You can upload an image from your computer or from our image library.
☝️ Images need to be:
- PNG, JPEG, or GIF format, in RGB color mode
- No larger than 5MB or 3264x3264 pixels
How to change kahoot settings: Save to
Decide where the kahoot is saved. You can move a kahoot by changing where it’s saved.
☝️ If you are an owner, admin, or member of a shared workspace (team subscription required), you can choose personal folders or team folders.
☝️ Kahoots will have different visibility options based on where they're saved.
How to change kahoot settings: Language
This setting helps other users looking for games in a specific language to find your game in the Discover section of our platform.
☝️ It does not alter the content of your game. We do not offer a built-in translation feature.
How to change kahoot settings: Visibility
Decide who can see your game. Kahoots have different visibility options based on where they're saved.

☝️ If you're a student, you may be limited to making kahoots visible to only you.
How to change kahoot settings: Allow duplication (available with certain plans)
This option allows you to decide whether you want to allow other Kahoot!'ers to copy your game.
☝️ Enable it if you want to make it easier for other users to create content similar to yours. They can adjust it to their needs without affecting the original version.
☝️ Disable this option if you don't want your content to be copied and reused by other creators.
Live game
How to change kahoot settings: Lobby video
Paste a YouTube video URL into the Lobby video field and the video will play full screen in the background while participants join your game. This can be just a bit of music, some comedic relief, or an instructional video that provides answers to questions they’ll see.
☝️ When a video is added to the lobby the Kahoot! Theme music is automatically disabled.
☝️ Only YouTube* videos can be added to the lobby.
*YouTube videos are no longer supported for business and social users. Read more here.
As a workaround, you can use a slide with an uploaded video (such as a Vimeo file) that plays in the Lobby when using Presentation mode or Lecture mode. Here's how to do it:
While creating your kahoot, add a slide as the first item, before any quiz or poll questions.
On the slide:
- Upload a video from your device or use a Vimeo video (fully supported and ad-free).
- This first slide will appear in the Lobby, before the game starts, while you're waiting for players to join.Save your kahoot and host in Presentation mode or Lecture mode to display the slide and video before the game begins.
Note: You’ll need to start the video manually once the Lobby screen appears.

How to change kahoot settings: Lobby music
You can select the default sound for your game. You can choose from our list.
☝️ It's not possible to upload your own audio files.
☝️ Music can be changed in the settings of each live session.
Curriculum standards (EDU plans)
Teachers on eligible EDU plans can enhance their kahoots by tagging them with curriculum standards. This makes it easier to align learning activities with instructional goals, improve content discovery, and support standards-based planning and assessment.
Kahoot! supports a wide range of curriculum frameworks, including:
- All 50 U.S. state standards
- Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
- Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
- ISTE Standards for Students (ISTE-S)
- National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)
To add curriculum standards, go to kahoot settings → Curriculum standards, select the relevant framework, subject, and grade, and then choose the appropriate standard codes for your kahoot.

It did not tell me how to make a kahoot public
Hi sbontrager! Thank you for your feedback!
Please see a separate article on How to make a kahoot public, private, or other to learn how to make a kahoot public. :)
I don't want the answers to be randomized. Can I change that?
Hello @johnrmckelvey, Yes, you can change the answer randomization settings in Kahoot! When hosting a live game, you have the option to toggle the randomization of answer order in the game settings. Follow these steps to modify the settings:
This setting allows you to control whether the answers appear in a set order or in a random order for each question. Please ensure that the game settings are saved so that they apply to the next time you host.
Is there a way to change the options from shapes to A, B, C, and D?
Hi @mdotson66 ! Thank you for your feedback.
Kahoot! currently does not support automatic assignment of letters (A, B, C, D) to answer options within the platform. However, you can manually add letters or numbers to answer boxes when creating a quiz.
To format the answer options with letters, you can type them directly into the answer fields as follows:
a) pink
b) purple
c) blue
d) green
Alternatively, if you prefer to use numbers, it would look like this:
1) pink
2) purple
3) blue
4) green
By doing this, the letters or numbers will be displayed on both the participant's and host's screens during the quiz (make sure that the participants can see questions on participant's screen).
Is there a way to turn on CC on YouTube videos that are embedded into the questions? I have students who require Closed Captioning legally and haven't found a way to implement that on Kahoot.
Hello tcornia, turning on CC on YouTube videos is possible. To do it: pause the video and then click "c" . After playing the video again it should show CC.
I hear you
