Adding images
You can add an image as your kahoot’s cover image and to each question. When editing a kahoot or editing a question, you can tap the media area to add an image from your camera, photos, our image library, videos or draw.
Camera
This option uses your device’s camera to take a photo.
Some cameras are set by default to snap photos that are in an unsupported file format or too high resolution. Please check your camera’s settings if your images fail to upload.

Editing images
Image reveal effect
If you have a subscription that unlocks the image reveal effect, it can be added to quiz questions and true/false questions. Just use the pencil button that appears next to an image you’ve uploaded.
This helps add a different dynamic to your game! After an image is added, you’ll see a set of “Image reveal” options to the right of the media box. Choose between original (no effect), 3x3, 5x5, or 8x8. The speed of this effect will vary based on the question’s time limit.
Credit a resource
To credit a resource, tap the pencil button that appears next to an image you’ve uploaded. A “Credits” field will be underneath the image reveal options.
In the credit resource field, you can input a web address or citation for the source of your image. You cannot edit the credit resources field when using an image from our image library, but you’ll be able to find out the photographer’s name and other related details.
Crop image
To crop an image, tap the pencil button that appears next to an image you’ve uploaded. Then tap the “crop” button.
In the crop editor, you can do the following:
- Pinch or spread two fingers to zoom in and out.
- Use one finger to drag the image.
- Toggle aspect ratio to 1:1, 3:2, or “original”.
- Switch between a zoom dial and aspect ratio options.
Draw (iOS 13 or newer only)
Exclusive to our mobile app on iOS, take advantage of Apple’s new PencilKit framework to quickly edit images! To draw on an image, tap the pencil button that appears next to an image you’ve uploaded. Then tap the “Draw” button.
Remove image
To remove an image, tap the “X” button next to the image.
YouTube videos
Intro video
An intro video will play on repeat in the background whilst participants join a game. This can be a useful opportunity to present an instructional or informative video your kahoot is based on. Or you can embed a music video to serve as custom lobby music.
Here’s how to add an intro video:
- Tap the gear button next to the “Title” field and choose “Add intro video”.
- Find a video on YouTube and copy its share link.
- Paste the link into the “Paste Link” field.
Videos in questions
Videos in questions can play an important role during gameplay. They can explain a key concept, offer subtle or obvious clues, or encourage participants to think carefully and be patient before answering. Each question can only have one image or video.
Here’s how to add a question video:
- When editing a question, tap where it says “Tap to add images or videos”.
- From the list of image and video options, tap “Videos”.
- Find a video on YouTube and copy its share link.
- Paste the link into the “Paste Link” field and tap the “Paste” button.
- If needed, add “Start at” and “end at” times to play only one section of the video.
- Tap the play button on your video to preview what’ll play during gameplay.
- Tap “Done” to move on.

Any way I can upload my own videos? I have some technical videos - Canine heartworm disease for example. Do all the videos need to be YourTube?
Thanks
Jeff
When I go to upload my image into Kahoot it's really annoying that I don't know what aspect ratio the photos should be. There's no crop feature it just zooms in on the picture. So then I have to keep putting in different photos until one just magically fits into the correct photo requirements of the Kahoot box. It looks bad for the box not to be filled in all the way and if the photo is zoomed in students can't tell what the image i supposed to be. Is there a specific aspect ratio and resolution that fits the image boxes? It's very tedious and time consuming to have to keep searching multiple photos per quiz question.
I've followed all of the guidelines and it still won't allow me to upload photos from my own photo library. Additionally, the Getty image search function just I definitely sits on the loading screen.
I'm having the same problem. I resized a photo to 100x25 px and it was 18KB, but it still said that it needed to be less than 5000x5000px and less than 10MB. I tried it on both a free account and a paid account. I tried with multiple images. It would appear there is something wrong with the code that inspects the uploaded photo. It thinks all images are too big.
