BACKGROUND
When you create an account, you choose a username that you want to use as an alias in our platform. All public content you create can be found by others if they search for your username in the Find Kahoots area.
PROBLEM
Sometimes, people need to change their username. It may be due to a legal name change, they are no longer with the organization/school that they included in their username, or they didn't realize this was a public alias and chose something slightly inappropriate. It would be very useful if there was a way for usernames to be changed.
WORKAROUND
The only option is to create a new account with the desired username. If you have content you want to copy over, you'll need to share it with the new username or search for your old username and duplicate kahoots.

Hi all! It's now possible to update your username.
It's frustrating that you have to use a new email address too. And not very convenient!
Hi. Kahoot is great. I really do like it. But indeed this is a real pain that I cannot change my profile name. What is the problem ? you cannot or you do not want to ?
Agreed, the option to change one's username is a feature that should be added.
Agreed, I'm no longer in BUS201, but that will forever be what I am known as on Kahoot.
It would also be great to be able to link to a google account. I created my account before our school had the google suite and now I have to log in manually instead of being able to just click on the "log in with google" button.
As a female teacher my surname has changed and I cannot update my username. I'm so disappointed. I was able to do it on Quizlet. This should be possible. I have a genuine need to change my username.
Please enable the option to change user name. This is not a legal issue and should be implemented.
Right now I use it for school. Sometimes I don’t like some of my nicknames and want to change them. I want to change D_Boiz to Reddotier.
I agree, its stupid that you can't change your use name. the technology is there. there is another program called quizzizz that is similar to kahoot, if you want to try that.
I also changed my email address to one of my home ones and then created a new account with my school gmail. Makes more sense to not be able to change your email than your username
I love Kahoot - well done.
However I find it quite ridiculous that in order to change my user name I have to create another account!!!!
Come on Kahoot, sort this out please, surely it cannot be that difficult?
Make a simple 'change username' button. You can do it with the password. Why not this?
I have the same issue. I've changed my name since my account was created, but I'd like to keep my old quizzes rather than starting over and sharing them with myself if that makes sense.

Please bear with us, as a username change is a very manual process. Every kahoot and file that includes your username must be located and updated. This can take a few days to process. We're working on tools to help speed this up. But for the moment, we can only support situations like described above.
To change username on your own...
We realize that allowing users to change their username is in high demand. There are technical concerns with allowing this. But we are exploring what we can do to resolve those concerns.
For now, you can delete your account and create a new one with your preferred username. If you have kahoots you want to keep, try the following:
Duplicating shared kahoots will create editable copies on your new account. You can now delete the old account and update the email on your new account.
One trick to speed up going between both accounts is to sign in to each account using a different browser. This will let you stay signed in to both accounts at the same time (no need to sign out). Note that you must use different browsers (like Chrome and Safari), not separate tabs or windows of the same browser.
One final note...
A "username" for an account is not the same as a "nickname" to join a game. The teacher/presenter of a game can turn on our "name generator" game option, which will remove the ability to type in a custom nickname. This is an optional feature and is off by default.

Just to confirm,
If I'm joining a public kahoot (at university) I'm expected to use my real name as my 'nickname' when joining.
Now that I've created an account, will I still be able to choose a nickname when joining?
I'm a bit concerned my username will just appear automatically on the screen!
