How do I enable questions on player screens step by step?
- Log in to Kahoot! and select the kahoot you want to play.
- Click to host a live game to open your game lobby.
- Go to Game settings (gear icon).
- Toggle on Show questions & answers on participants' devices.
- Choose your preferred experience (Classic, Team, Accuracy, Student-led).
- Start the game. Participants will now see the questions and answer options on their screens.
💡 You do not need to enable this for assignments (self-paced kahoots). If you assign a kahoot, the questions and answers are already displayed on participants' devices by default.

What are the key benefits of showing questions on player screens?
Enabling this setting greatly improves engagement and inclusivity for all players. Key benefits include:
- Online learning: Perfect for Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams sessions where players may struggle to read a shared screen.
- Large classrooms: Students sitting in the back can read everything without straining their eyes.
- Accessibility: Helps participants using small devices or those with visual impairments. Participants using the mobile app can also combine this screen setting with the Read Aloud feature.
- Independence: Players don't need to constantly look back and forth between the host's big screen and their own device.
🔗 After your game finishes, you can check your Kahoot! quiz reports to see how well your engaged audience performed.
How do I troubleshoot issues with questions on player screens?
Displaying questions and media on individual devices requires more data. If you encounter issues, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Players can't see questions: Ask affected players to refresh their web browser or update their Kahoot! mobile app.
- Questions load slowly: Because this mode loads more content directly onto each device, variations in device processing power can cause questions to appear slightly later on older devices.
- Videos won't play: Videos are hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. If the local network or security software blocks these sites, the videos will not load on player devices. Ask your IT admin to allowlist these domains.

FAQ
-
How do I show questions on player screens by default? Once you toggle this setting on in your game settings, it persists. The setting is saved and will automatically remain active the next time you host a live game, so you do not need to configure it every time.
-
Does showing questions on participant screens affect bandwidth? Yes, it often increases bandwidth usage. If everyone is playing on the same local network, the bandwidth required per participant rises significantly because all devices must preload images and videos simultaneously. If players are joining remotely from their own homes, the host's bandwidth remains roughly the same, while the participants' networks handle the extra load.
-
Why are questions appearing late on some participant devices? This mode forces each individual device to load more content (text, images, videos). Due to differences in device processing speeds and individual internet connections, questions may not load at the exact same millisecond for every player.
-
Why are videos not playing on participant devices? If a network firewall or security software blocks YouTube or Vimeo, those videos will fail to load on individual devices. You will need to ask your network administrator to allow access to these platforms.
- Can I change how often the leaderboard appears during a live game? No. In live games, the leaderboard automatically displays after every question. It is currently not possible to change this setting to display intermittently (e.g., every 5 questions). If you are hosting with Professional or Lecture experience, scoreboards are hidden unless you choose to display them.

brilliant! can we set this as default so we don't have to change it each game?
Hi,
I`m going to renew payment, but can´t access the discount. Why?
How to upgrade
Hi @DavidStuartThompson! Thank you for your feedback. The settings you configure before hosting a kahoot are saved for future games. Once you enable them, you won't need to remember to set them again later.

How do I set the leaderboard to display intermittently—every 5 questions rather than after each one?
Hi UzatuNarkes!
Thank you for your question! At the moment, Kahoot! automatically displays the leaderboard after every question in Classic mode, and unfortunately, it’s not possible to change this setting or show the leaderboard every 5 questions instead. However, we’re always working to make improvements based on your feedback.
