How to enable Q&A
To turn on live Q&A during a live presentation:
- Log in to Kahoot! account and open the kahoot you want to host.
- Click Host live button and, depending on your account type, choose Professional or Lecture experience rom the carousel at the bottom of the screen.
💡 Alternatively, you click on kahoot to open its details page and and select the hosting mode there.
- Before starting, locate and click the gearwheel icon
in the bottom-right corner to open the Settings.
- Toggle Q&A on. Participants will now be able to submit questions from their devices.
☝️ The host can disable the possibility to ask questions anytime during the presentation by clicking the Lock icon.
How participants ask questions
When Q&A is enabled:
Participants can submit their questions directly from their devices. A button labeled Ask will be available on their screens at the bottom right corner.
Note:
☝️ The character limit is 200 characters.
☝️ The participant’s name will be visible to the host and on other participants’ screens.
☝️ If the button Ask has a lock icon , it means the host has temporarily locked question submissions.
How question upvoting works
Participants can upvote questions submitted by others:
- Each submitted question includes a visible upvote button on participants's devices.
- Participants can vote for the questions the believe should be highlighted.
- Hosts and participants can switch between Latest and Top voted sorting.
How to find submitted questions
As a presenter:
- Click the Q&A icon located at the bottom right corner of your presentation screen.
- A side panel opens, displaying submitted questions. You can scroll through the list of questions and address them when it makes sense within your session.

Sort by Latest (real-time flow) or Top Voted (priority questions) by clicking Manage questions button.
💡 Click on a specific question in the panel to enlarge it and display it prominently on the main screen for all participants to see.💡Click on expand the Q&A panel to a larger view on the host screen, making it easier to see and manage questions during your presentation.
💡 When a question is answered, you have the option to archive it or bring it back as needed by clicking Manage questions → Archived → Restore.
💡 After the session, you can review all the questions that were submitted. Look for a Q&A summary button or section within the session report to access this list.
By using the Q&A feature, you can create a more inclusive and responsive environment, ensuring everyone's voice can be heard and questions get addressed promptly.
Moderated Q&A
With Moderated Q&A, you have full control over which questions the audience sees. You must approve incoming questions before they appear on the big screen.
How to enable Moderated Q&A
- Before starting your live presentation, click the gearwheel icon in the bottom-right corner to open the Settings.
- Toggle Q&A on, then toggle Q&A Moderation on.
- You can also turn moderation on directly from the Q&A panel during your live session.
☝️Note: Once Moderated Q&A is enabled during a live session, you cannot disable moderation for that specific session.
How to invite a moderator (Co-hosting)
If you are presenting and want someone else to manage the Q&A, you can invite a co-host:
- From the Q&A panel or settings, generate a unique link or a QR code.
- The QR code is blurred by default to prevent accidental sharing on the big screen.
- Share this link or QR code with your co-host.
How moderating works
The moderator's view is organized into four tabs:
- In Review: All new incoming questions land here.
- Approved: Questions that have been approved and are now visible to the audience.
- Dismissed: Questions that were rejected. These are hidden from the audience and only visible to the moderator.
- Archived: Approved questions that have been addressed and moved out of the active list.
To manage the flow, simply review questions in the In Review tab and click Approve or Dismiss.
The moderator panel offers three different layout views to help you manage questions comfortably. You can switch between them using the icons in the top right corner of the panel:
- Compact view: Displays a condensed list of questions.
- Default view: Shows the standard question cards.

Expanded view: Displays expanded question cards with quick action buttons like "Move to dismissed" and "Archive".
How questions work for participants in a moderated session

Real-time status updates: Once submitted, participants will see the status of their question on their device (e.g., "In Review", "Approved", or "Dismissed").
- Dismissed questions: If a question is dismissed, the author will know, but it will remain completely hidden from everyone else.
- Upvoting: Participants can only see and upvote questions that have been Approved by the moderator.

Can participants ask questions anonymously?
Yes. Participants can ask questions anonymously. If a participant joins the game using the nickname generator or chooses an anonymous nickname, that same nickname is used when they submit questions in Q&A. -
Can I moderate or delete questions during the session?
Yes, you can hide questions, and these questions will be hidden both in at the host screen and at the participant device. -
Can participants upvote their own questions?
Yes — any participant can upvote any visible question, including their own. -
Can I turn Q&A on or off after the session has started?
Yes. You can enable or disable questions at any time using the Lock icon. -
Can I display multiple questions on screen at once?
Yes. You can display multiple questions on the screen. The panel opens showing all questions, and when you click on a specific one, it becomes highlighted. -
Is Q&A available in all experiences?
Q&A is available in selected hosting experiences (Professional/Lecture), depending on your plan.
