How to import questions from a spreadsheet to your kahoot

Open and Download our template and, then open it in a compatible spreadsheet program (MS Excel, Libre Office, Google Spreadsheets, or Numbers).
Type your questions and answers in the designated columns.- Questions have a limit of 95 characters
- Answers have a limit of 60 characters
- Each question must have at least two answers
- Allowable time limit (sec) values are: 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, or 120
- Set which answers are correct by listing answer numbers separated by commas (e.g. “1” or “2,3”).
- When ready, save the template to your computer or device.
- Enter the kahoot creator by clicking Create in the top right corner of the platform.
- Click the Add question button in the left panel, then select Import. At the bottom, you’ll find the Import spreadsheet option.
- Upload a .xlsx file (MS Excel 2007 or newer). You can upload it by dragging it into the Import from spreadsheet prompt, or by using the Select File button to locate the spreadsheet. Now use the Upload button.
💡 Our system will check for errors. If any are found, you can go back to fix them or continue without the problematic questions.
💡Once imported, your questions will appear in the kahoot creator.

Will there soon be an option to then download existing kahoots as spreadsheets? This will make it easy to combine our existing kahoots that were created before the spreadsheet import feather was added
Hi CCBCMissAlly! We now have a built-in way to combine kahoots. No need to download the kahoot only to re-upload it :-)
But if you do want to export a kahoot for any other reason, you can play through the kahoot and download the report after. This will give you an xlsx file that includes all questions and answer options.
Where do the questions go after importing?
On the creation page the character limit for questions is 120 but the instructions on this page and your Excel template is set at 95. These need to be updated.
Is there a way to import questions and answers containing special characters ( f(x) equations ) automatically? Is there also a way to import an image from a spreadsheet? Thank you! This is a fantastic feature!
hello, You can copy paste a lot of mathematical symbols into the kahoot creator, either directly or as LateX code. Example code:
$$\Braket{ \phi | \frac{\partial^2}{\partial t^2} | \psi }$$
Is there a way to import other quesiton types such as type answers, puzzle…

The option import spreadsheet is not available
Hey @danielcardinal17, we have recently updated the layout of our creator, and you can now find the Import spreadsheet button by following the Add question > Import path. We are currently working on updating the above article – sorry for any confusion caused by this.
Is there a way to have 5-6 answers?

Adding more than 4 answer choices (up to 6) is available only with specific plans. Any feature in the kahoot creator marked with a star isn't included in your current plan.
