How to create Kahoot! account
Go to kahoot.com → Sign up. Choose your account type (Teacher, Student, Personal, Professional), provide role/age details, verify your email & set a password (or use SSO: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Clever), then choose your plan. A free plan is always available; paid plans add advanced features.

What are the steps to create a Kahoot! account?
- Choose your account type - Teacher, Student, Personal, Professional.
- Provide more context - role, date of birth (student/personal), or a username.
- Verify your email & set password - or use SSO.
- Select a plan: free or paid.

What context is needed for each account type?
Teacher
- Schools (K-12 public)
- Higher Ed (colleges/universities)
- School Admin
- Business (for-profit institutions)
Student
- Enter date of birth
- Age restrictions: US < 13, non US < 16, Korea < 14 = limited account per Children Privacy Policy.
- Create a username (≤ 20 characters, letters/numbers, _ or . only)
- Option: use magic wand to auto-generate.
Personal
- Choose context: Friends & family, Colleagues/clients, Students (as a teacher), Other
- Enter date date of birth (same restrictions as students)
- Create or auto-generate a username
How do I verify my email and password?
- Enter email → check inbox → click verification link
- Set password (6-20 characters)
☝️ You can skip email verification during sign-up by choosing Sign in with Google, Microsoft, Apple, or Clever.
☝️ If your email is not verified, you won’t be able to reset your password.
☝️ You have 7 days after creating your account to verify your email.
How do I select my Kahoot! plan?
- After sign-up, you land on Pricing page
- Scroll to find Free plan (always available)
- Business free option is listed under the feature table
- Paid plans unlock: larger participant limits, advanced question types, reports and more

We took into consideration all the needs our users from different backgrounds communicated to us as well as the social and financial contexts they operate in. This is why there are different functionalities depending on what account type you selected. -
How do I know what account type to choose?
Your type of user fully depends on your primary activity with Kahoot! and association with other organizations. Please see the usage cases and the corresponding account type:
- If you are a teacher or professor at a K-12 school, college, or university you can sign up as a teacher.
- If you are a student at a K-12 school, college, or university you can sign up as a student.
- If you are not affiliated with any organization or intend to use Kahoot! for personal use then sign up for a social account.
- If you’re affiliated with a for-profit or non-profit organization and wish to use Kahoot! to make events and training, then sign up for a professional account. -
What is the age limit?
US: 13+, Non-US: 16+, Korea: 14+ -
Can I create an account without email?
Yes, if you use SSO (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Clever). Otherwise, an email is required. -
Can I share my account with others?
No. Each account is for one person. Organizations need to buy multiple licenses for multiple users. -
Can I delete my account later?
Yes, from Settings → Account details → Delete account. -
