- Need help with specific accommodations?
Here are ways Kahoot! can support learners with low vision or blindness.
Screen readers and read-aloud
- Screen readers on host devices can read questions and answer options aloud.
- Screen readers on player devices can read matching answer numbers aloud so learners can respond using assistive technology.
- Our iOS and Android apps include a built‑in read-aloud feature to vocalize questions and answers in supported contexts.
Text size and contrast
- Text is scalable using your browser’s zoom controls, up to at least 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- An “Increase contrast” option enhances color contrast on question screens to improve readability.
Accessible images and media
- You can add alt-text to images to describe visual content for screen reader users.
- You can embed YouTube or Vimeo media that already includes appropriate captions and audio descriptions.
Viewing content on personal devices
- You can choose to show questions and answer options on player devices so each learner can read the content up close on their own screen.
Controlling or removing sound
- Music and sound effects can be muted at the browser level using your browser’s “mute tab” feature.
- Kahoot! also provides a built‑in volume control so hosts can adjust or turn down game audio.
These options help support learners who are hard of hearing, rely on lip‑reading or visual cues, or are sensitive to loud or unexpected sounds.
Using captioned or described video
- When you embed YouTube or Vimeo media, you can select videos that already offer captions and audio descriptions to support a wide range of hearing needs.
Kahoot! can support students who benefit from additional time, clearer visuals, or read‑aloud support.
Clearer visuals and text
- Browser zoom lets learners make text significantly larger (up to at least 200%) while keeping the game usable.
- The “Increase contrast” setting can make question and answer text easier to distinguish from backgrounds.
Extra time and reduced time pressure
- You can set longer question time limit (up to 4 minutes per question) so learners have ample time to read, process, and respond.
- Accuracy Mode focuses on correct answers instead of speed, creating a more relaxed and inclusive experience.
- In Accuracy Mode, you can enable the Unlimited time accessibility option in live game settings so participants can take as long as they need to answer.
- For assigned kahoots, you can turn off the question timer entirely, removing speed‑based point reduction and letting participants work fully at their own pace.
Flexible viewing and pacing
- When you show questions and answers on player devices, learners can read at their own pace on a personal screen instead of relying only on the shared display.
Read-aloud and assistive technology
- Screen readers on host and player devices can read questions, answers, and answer numbers aloud.
- The mobile apps’ read-aloud feature can help learners who benefit from having text spoken as they follow along.
Choosing question types that work well with assistive tech
- Our Trust Center’s accessibility options page outlines which question types are best to use with assistive technology, so you can design games that work well for your learners and their tools.
Keyboard navigation
- Kahoot! is navigable using keyboard keys such as Alt, Enter, and Spacebar, helping learners and hosts who prefer or require keyboard‑only interaction.
These options can support learners who use alternative input devices or cannot reliably use a mouse or touch controls.
