How to preview and test your kahoot before hosting live
Before you host a live kahoot, you can easily preview and test your game directly from Creator view. This allows you to see how your kahoot looks from both the host's and participant's perspective - and even play through the entire game as if you were one of your players.
How to access preview mode
Open your kahoot in the creator
Click Preview in the top right corner of the screen.
The screen will split into two panels:
💻 Host view - shows what you'll display while hosting live
📱 Participant view - lets you see how each question appears to players on their own device.
This quick content preview gives you an instant understanding of how your kahoot will look and feel during a live session. You can move through questions, check answers, layouts, and confirm that your images, timers, and points are set just right.
How to launch a demo game
From the same preview interface, you can also start a demo game to fully test the game flow.
- While in Preview mode, click Launch demo in the bottom-right corner.
💡 Alternatively, you can Launch demo by clicking the ⋮ Options button on kahoot details page. - A game lobby will open - just like in real live kahoot session.
- You'll now see two views:
The host screen, where you can adjust lobby settings, start the game, and see player progress.
The participant view, where you can join as a player, enter the game PIN, and answer questions.
- Use both views to recreate a real Kahoot! experience - control the session from the host side while responding as a participant.
- Play through your kahoot to test how questions, scoring, timers, and transitions appear in real time.
Launching a demo game lets you experience the entire kahoot workflow, from lobby setup and host controls to answering questions and viewing results - exactly as it would look in a real live game.
