Kahoot! courses: Assign
💡 SCHOOL TEACHERS 💡
Assigning courses requires one of the Kahoot! EDU plans and agreeing to Kahoot! collecting student information.
Otherwise, K-12 teachers are limited to hosting online courses as live sessions.
To assign a course:
- Go to the Courses section of your Library and open the course details page.
- On the right-hand side, under Course session, click Assign.
The Assign course window will open, where you can choose whether to assign the full course or per module and adjust additional settings.
How to assign a full course
Use this option if you want learners to access the full course from the start and work through all modules at their own pace within a single assignment window.
- In the Assign course window, keep Assign full course selected.
- Set the Start and End date and time for when the assignment should be open to learners.
- (Optional) Turn Automated reminders on or off. When enabled, reminders are sent based on the total course duration:
- No reminder is sent if the course duration is 3 days or less.
- A reminder is sent 3 days after the course start date if the course duration is more than 4 days but less than 7 days.
- A reminder is sent 7 days after the course start date if the course duration is 7 days or longer.
- (Optional) Under Enable player identifier, turn the setting on if you want to collect learners’ emails and track individual progress in reports.
- (Optional) Under Choose settings for activities in this assignment, adjust options according to how you want learners to experience the kahoots in the course.
- Click Create assignment to share the course assignment link or QR code with learners, or assign it directly to them, depending on your plan and account type.
How to assign per module
Use this option if your course contains modules and you want to release them over time, for example in a drip-learning program.
- In the Assign course window, select Assign per module.
- Set the Start date and time for when the first module should become available to learners.
- Under Module release frequency, choose how often new modules should be released (for example, every set number of days) from the available options.
- Under Module availability, choose how long each module should stay open after it is released (for example, for a set number of days) before it closes for learners.
- (Optional) Turn on No time limit if you want each module to remain available for the entire duration of the assignment instead of closing after a specific availability period.
- Click Module release dates to review and fine-tune the schedule for each module before confirming the assignment.
- Scroll down to configure Player identifier and activity settings (such as Play in sequence and Nickname generator) in the same way as for a full-course assignment, then click Create assignment.
As the next step, you can share the session via QR code, link, or assign it directly to learners.
Managing ongoing course assignments
After creating the assignment (full course or per module), you can access, share, and manage it from two places: the Recent sessions section on the course details page and the Reports section.
-
Course details page
- From the Courses section in Reports
To keep very large course assignments fast and reliable, Kahoot! automatically starts a new batch once around 1,000 participants have joined. Everyone continues to use the same assignment link, but behind the scenes the course is split into multiple reports to maintain good performance. This is why you may see more than one report for the same course. If you notice an additional report appearing at or after around 1,000 participants, this is expected behavior and not a duplicate. The new report is used for learners who join after that point.
Kahoot! courses: Self-study
Use self-study when learners want to go through a course on their own, without joining a live session or a timed assignment.
To start a course in self-study mode:
- Go to the Courses section of your Library and open the course details page.
- On the right-hand side, under Course self-study, click Learn.
- A new tab or window opens with the course player. Enter a nickname and click OK, go! to start the course.
The course will run in a single-player mode, letting learners complete the kahoots and activities at their own pace.
