Uh-oh, can’t remember the password! We’ve all been there a few times. If this happens to you when you try logging in to Kahoot!, there’s no reason to worry. We have a password reset tool available at https://create.kahoot.it/#forgotpassword. You can also access this screen by clicking “Lost your password?” under the sign in fields at https://create.kahoot.it or in our iOS/Android app.
As long as you have access to the email your Kahoot! account was registered with, you can find your username and/or reset your password.
Right after you enter your email address into the field and hit “email me”, we’ll send a message to that email from "email@example.com". Sometimes it take a few minutes to show up in your inbox. Please give it at least 5 minutes, and check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see it in the main inbox. The message will have your username and a link for resetting your password that’s valid for 24 hours. Here’ an example:
If you never receive such email, please review your email account’s security settings. You may need to whitelist "firstname.lastname@example.org", as some settings might be blocking our messages. If your email account is from a school or employer, you may need to contact an IT admin in order to ensure this is done properly.
If you still can’t sign in after resetting your password, there are a few possibilities:
- If you’re trying to sign in using the “Sign in with Google” button, that feature only works for accounts created with the “Sign up with Google” feature that we released in June 2017. If your account is older than that, or was created using our traditional email method, you cannot sign in with that button.
- If you’re in the US and under age 13 (under 16 elsewhere), you must use your username to sign in. Your email is only usable for password resets, not for signing in.
- Sometimes browser extensions can cause problems with our sign in process. Try using your browser’s privacy mode to disable most extensions, or a different browser to reset your password and sign in.
If you don’t remember what email your account was registered with or don’t have access to it, we unfortunately won’t be able to restore your access. But you might be able to find and duplicate your kahoots with a new account. Just create a new account and go to the “Find Kahoots” page. Then search for your old account’s username. Any kahoots you made that are public should be listed.
