How to use Kahoot! folders
Kahoot! folders let you organize the kahoots, stories and courses in your Library. Every workspace has Your folders, which other team members can't see. Team workspaces also have Organization's folders, shared with members who have a paid seat. To add something to a folder, click the three vertical dots on its card and choose Move.
You can't move kahoots from Your favorites or Shared with you. Duplicate them instead and choose a folder for the copy.

What is the difference between Your folders and Organization's folders?
Your folders hold your own content and are hidden from other team members. Organization's folders are shared with the team and exist only in team workspaces (team subscription required).
| Your folders | Organization's folders | |
| Where available | Private workspace and team workspaces | Team workspaces only |
| Who can see the content | You, plus the organization's owner and admins | Everyone in the team workspace except limited members |
| Who can create folders | You | Everyone who can see Organization's folders |
| Who can rename, move, duplicate, share or delete a folder | You | The folder's creator and the organization's owner and admins |
- Folders belong to one workspace. A folder you create in workspace X won't appear in workspace Y. Switch workspaces at the top of the left-side panel.
- Limited members see only Your folders.
- Moving content between workspaces. You can't move someone else's kahoot into Your folders; only the owner and admins can, and the kahoot then becomes unavailable to the team. Some plans keep organization content inside the organization, so it can't move to a private workspace or another organization.
- The top-level Your folders section can't be renamed, moved or deleted. Only the folders inside it can.
Where are folders in my Kahoot! Library?
Open Library from the left-side menu. Folders sit under Your folders and, in team workspaces, Organization's folders.
The other items in the menu are lists, not folders, so you can't create or move folders into them:
- Recent: content you worked on recently. You can select several cards here and move them into a folder.
- Your drafts: content you haven't finished yet.
- Your favorites: kahoots by other creators that you favorited. They can't be moved, only duplicated.
- Shared with you: content others shared with you. It can't be moved, only duplicated.
How much can a folder hold? Each folder can contain up to 100 folders and 1,000 kahoots. Folders can be nested up to 25 levels deep, and a folder name can be up to 95 characters long.
How do I create a folder in Kahoot!?
On a computer, use the plus icon in the Library menu:
- Go to the workspace where the folder should be, and open Library from the left-side menu.
- Click the plus icon (+) next to Your folders or Organization's folders. The tooltip reads Create a new personal folder. or Create a new organization folder.
- Type a name and press Enter.
To create a folder inside another folder (and on a phone or tablet):
- Open the folder.
- Click New and choose Folder.
The same New menu also lets you create a kahoot, story or course directly in that folder.
Click a folder to open it, or click its three vertical dots for Rename, Share, Move, Duplicate and Delete folder. You only see the options you're allowed to use.
How do I move a kahoot, story, or course into a folder?
Use Move on the item's card. You can move one item or several at once.
To move one item:
- Click the three vertical dots on the kahoot, story or course card and choose Move.
- In the Move kahoot, Move story or Move course window, click a folder to open it. Use Back above the list to go up a level.
- When the destination folder is open, click Move.
To move several items at once:
- In Recent or inside a folder, hover over a card and tick the check box in its top-left corner. Tick as many cards as you need.
- Click Move in the blue bar at the top of the list. On a phone or tablet, the bar is at the bottom of the screen.
- Open the destination folder and click Move.
Moving between Your folders and Organization's folders changes who can see the item, so you'll be asked to confirm. The confirmation calls these sections Your content and Team content.
How do I move or duplicate a folder?
- Click the three vertical dots on the folder and choose Move or Duplicate. The Move folder or Duplicate folder window opens.
- Click a folder in the list to open it. Use Back above the list to go up a level.
- When the destination folder is open, click Move (or Duplicate).
- A message appears at the top of the page. Click Go to folder to open the destination.
Good to know:
- Click New folder at the top of the list to create a destination without leaving the window.
- With more than one workspace, click Back at the top level of the list to choose another workspace.
- A duplicated folder is named Duplicate of followed by the original name.
- You can't move a folder into itself or one of its subfolders, or from a team workspace into your private workspace.
How do I delete a folder, and what happens to its content?
Deleting a folder deletes its subfolders too. Kahoots, courses, and stories inside go to Trash, where you can restore them.
- Click the three vertical dots on the folder and choose Delete folder.
- Read the summary and click Delete.
| What was in the folder | What happens |
| Subfolders | Deleted |
| Content (kahoots, stories, courses) | Moved to Trash; restored content go to the workspace's main folder, not the deleted folder |
| Content drafts | Deleted permanently |
| Reports and ongoing assignments | Not affected; delete them separately if needed |
Can't delete a folder? Remove any kahoots listed on Kahoot! Marketplace or included in a channel first. In a team workspace, members also can't delete a folder that holds kahoots created or locked by someone else.
Why can't I move content into a folder?
Usually because the kahoot isn't yours to move. Kahoots in Your favorites or Shared with you can't be moved, but most can be duplicated: click Duplicate and choose the folder where the copy should go. The original stays unchanged. More in How to duplicate kahoots.
Why is a folder greyed out in the Move window? Hover over it to see the reason. Common reasons:
- You're moving someone else's kahoot into Your folders or your private workspace.
- The kahoot is locked, or someone is editing it.
- The kahoot is premium content.
- Your organization's plan keeps content inside the organization.
- The workspace's subscription has expired.
Why is Move missing from the blue bar? Your selection includes a story or course draft. Story and course drafts can't be moved until they're published. Courses someone else shared with you and you added to your Library can't be moved either.

Hello, today i want to create a Kahoot to my students, but i can´t finish it, because it is a "draft", and i don´t know how to change it, so i can´t play with my students because i can´t share it with them. please can you help me?
This help article is not accurate. There is no "Move" option in this menu:
Hi jcooke60!
Currently, it is not possible to move kahoots that are favorited and created by other users within your library. You can only move kahoots that you have created. However, there is a workaround for this limitation. You can duplicate the favorited kahoot, and the duplicate will be saved in your own library. From there, you can move it to any folder you prefer.
Here are the steps to duplicate a favorited kahoot:
This way, you can organize the content as needed while keeping the original favorited kahoot intact.
This is an absolutely pointless feature if these folders are not available to the public.
I've created many folders to organize my kahoots but if other people go on my profile, all they see is a jumbled mess. I tested it with a dummy account.
Many people have already suggested this many times and there's still nothing done. I don't see what is the team's “priorities” are but this doesn't seem too complicated to do.
Also regarding the support comment above. Duplicating all the time is only clogging the server.
Thanks for your time.
