Player identifier

The player identifier allows tracking player performance across multiple games. Once you or your team have hosted multiple games with player identification on, you’ll be able to combine reports into one.
When enabled, players will be required to enter a player identifier when entering the game that will be associated with their nickname. This allows you, the host, to know the identity of each player, see their answers and score, and track progress in training or tournaments.
You are the data controller of the personal data collected as a player identifier and responsible for its lawful collection and use. Kahoot! acts as a data processor, and will not use this information for any other purpose than to provide services to you.
Shortcuts:
- Set up player identifier
- Host and assign with player identifier
- Play a kahoot with player identifier

Set up player identifier
The owner and admins of the subscription can manage the player identifier settings in the Team Settings section of the platform.
- Click the avatar of your account in the top right corner of the platform.
- Click Team settings and go to the Team details section. The Player Identifier settings section differs depending on your plan type.
The business and higher education subscribers
- The default identifier will be the email address. Only the owners and admins of team subscriptions are able to select a custom player identifier. Users with individual licenses are limited to the default identifier setting and will not have access to the Team settings option.
- If you enable the Send email invitation to join kahoot, the players after submitting their email addresses, will receive messages in their inboxes with a direct link to your game. This allows you to verify that all players provided the correct emails.
- When the Send email invitation to join kahoot is enabled, you can turn on the Add player to your organization option. This feature is helpful with onboarding new Team Members. All the players who join your game with Player Identifier will be prompted to log in or sign up. After accessing their accounts, they will be added to your shared workspace.
- If you toggle on the Turn on player identifier for all kahoots and courses option, all games hosted by your team members will have player identifier enabled by default. The host can still disable this in the game settings.
The EDU School & District subscribers
- The players will see a message that the host requires they provide their first name and the initial of their last name to join the game.
- If you toggle on the Turn on player identifier for all kahoots and courses option, all games hosted by your team members will have player identifier enabled by default. The host can still disable this in the game settings.
Host and assign with player identifier
Anyone on the team can toggle player identification when they host games.
- Start a live game or an assignment.
- Access the settings.
- Toggle on the Player identifier.
Play a kahoot with player identifier
If the host toggled on player identifier before they started the game, players can download our Android or iOS app or go to kahoot.it to enter the game PIN. They will be prompted to enter the relevant identifier before they choose a nickname.
- Identified learners will not have their identifiers displayed during gameplay. Identifiers will only show in reports.
- If identified learners are using our Android or iOS app, their identifier is saved in the app so they aren’t prompted to enter it every time they join games by the host’s team.

So... what I see is that you enabled Premium for schools during the Pandemic, but not the option to identify players (ie. track student performance). How lame is that! Shameful! Why would I ask my school to purchase this in our next year, given your lack of integrity?
It’s now available with the teachers’ subscription? If not I will have to go away from being a faithful customer to Kahoot.
Thank you.
I just upgraded to the Kahoot!+ Max Teacher for Individuals because the plan features page says you can access reports. I agree that this is deceitful advertising if my paid subscription does not include access to this player identifier feature. The absence of this player identifier feature makes the reports largely useless! I will be seeking a refund and discourage any teacher from using the paid features of this platform.
But…I don't want to do all this. I literally just want to be able to see the nicknames kids type in BEFORE I hit start. That's it. That's the feature I want back. I don't need all their stuff tracked. I don't need to link it to their email address. I just want them to type in a name and go. But I need to SEE those nicknames before we start so they don't use something inappropriate. I want to be able to see the names so I can boot them BEFORE the game starts and have them reenter with an appropriate nickname.
Hello jflarkin!
You can review students' nicknames in the lobby before you start the game. If you spot an inappropriate nickname in the game lobby, you can click the nickname to remove that player from the game.
To resolve the issue you're encountering, please review the following help article on How to handle inappropriate nicknames.
Thanks Marcin. I was able to resolve my issue. I was using a kahoot someone else created and they had somehow added a video to the lobby which was preventing me from seeing names as students joined. I was able to find where they'd added that video and deleted it and now it seems to be working correctly.
Is there any way to see emails that kids used or other identifiers when the nickname generator has been turned on?
Hello, unfortunately, we don't retain such data unless our Player Identifier feature was enabled before the session started. You can check the report after game to see all nicknames of participants.
